Parker Motors to Two in a Row! |
|
Mar 28 2011
|
GASTONIA, NC -
Ron ‘The Bull’ Parker lived up to his nickname on Friday night at Carolina Speedway as the Belwood, NC native charged through a strong NDRA GM Performance Late Model field to capture his second win in as many weeks.
Starting fourth in the 22 car field Parker bypassed Rambo Franklin before setting his sights on fast qualifier Greg Barker. After disposing of Barker near the midpoint of the 20 lapper he made a late pass of Lancaster, SC’s Timbo Mangum for the race lead out of turn four.
Barker went on to place second with Franklin third, Mangum fourth and Matt Long fifth. |

MENZIES MOTORSPORTS takes the first WIN of LOORRS opening weekend! |
|
Just one week after racing San Felipe, the Menzies crew hit the road again and switched gears to take on the opening weekend of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. With Bryce Menzies racing the Red Bull/Menzies Pro 2 and Racing Legend Ricky Johnson in the Red Bull/Menzies Pro 4 it was going to be one opening weekend the fans would not forget.
After arriving in Phoenix, AZ the Menzies team quickly got to work setting up their pit and proudly showing the fans and fellow competitors what they have brought to the table this year. With new sponsors, new colors and new drivers Menzies Motorsports is going to be the team to follow this year.
The weekend started out with practice and qualifying and the newly wrapped Red Bull trucks ran right up there with the top. After qualifying 3rd for Saturday and an invert of 4 positions Bryce would be starting on the front row for the Pro 2 race. Ricky ran right up with the top drivers and qualified 4th for Saturdays Pro 4 race.
With Ricky Johnson making his debut in the number 48 Menzies Pro 4 this weekend’s races were about getting comfortable in the truck. With some of the best times in practice and qualifying it looked as if Ricky would fit right into the pro 4 class. As the races got underway on Saturday contact was made to the truck in the first lap and with a broken shock Ricky knew it was best to just pull off the track and not harm the truck anymore. With the shock replaced Ricky was back Sunday and ready to give the fans a good show. After the green flag dropped on Sundays pro 4 race, Ricky pushed right up to the lead and battled back and forth between 1st and 3rd when yet again contact was made to the truck and after the mandatory yellow Ricky had to make the decision of pulling out of the race or trying to continue and possibly do more damage. After a quick and smart decision Ricky pulled of and the hopes for a win in the Pro 4 class were quickly shot down.
Bryce Menzies was ready to pick up right where he left off and that was with a win. Bryce started Saturday’s race right where he needed to be, front row. As the pace truck pulled off the course and spotters announced to the drivers that the race was on Bryce pushed hard to take the front position. Brian Deegan took the lead and right behind him was the Red Bull/Menzies Pro 2 that was ready for battle. After putting the move on Deegan and taking the lead Bryce had to hold off veteran driver Carl Renezeder and that is just what he did. After 20 laps Bryce started off the opening weekend of LOORRS taking the Pro 2 win.
After celebrating the win it was time to get back to work and prepare for Sundays race. Cleaning off the mud and making a few little changes it was already time for Sunday’s race. Bryce started with the front of the pack again and was battling for 1st when halfway through the race Bryce pulled off the track with a broken driveline. “I am really glad we came out of this weekend with at least one win. We are a very blessed team and not many teams get the opportunity to say they started opening weekend with a first place. We did have some bad luck but we are ready to get back in the shop, fix the problems and come back to the next LOORRS race even stronger.” Said Bryce as he and his crew packed up to head back home to Vegas.
Not only will Menzies be racing some of the LOORRS races this year but they will also be traveling back east to compete for the Championship title in Pro 2wd truck, Pro 4x4 truck and Pro Light 2wd truck class’ for the Traxxas TORC Series. Chris Ferguson Takes a Pair of Top 5 Finishes |
MARCH 23, 2011 |
|
Chris Ferguson and his Chris Ferguson Motorsports Race Team traveled to a pair of prestigious Carolina events during the past weekend. For their efforts the team racked up a pair of top 5 finishes and edged closer to the top of the point standings in two different regional touring series. Ferguson now sits in 2nd position in both the Ultimate Series and the Carolina Clash Series standings. “All in all we had a very good weekend. We had a shot at winning on Saturday and on Sunday we were very competitive with some of the best drivers in the country. Our new Warrior Race Car has been just exceptional so far and I am already very comfortable in it. In 3 starts we have a couple of second place finishes and a fifth. As well as we have run right out of the gate has my whole team really excited about this year.” Ferguson said.
On Saturday the team made the short trip to Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina for the 11th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial. The STM, the Carolina Clash Series season opener, is a special event to Ferguson and his team. Chris and his family were very close to the Trulls as he grew up. Chris won the event in 2009. Ferguson dug a bit of hole for himself in qualifying timing quick enough for the fifth starting spot. “We knew track conditions were going to make it tough to pass. So starting fifth was definitely not what we had hoped for.” Ferguson said. However late in the race Ferguson found himself sitting in second behind race-long leader Ross Bailes. “Ross had a good car and it was going to be tough to get by him. The track had slowed down so much on the bottom and by the time I realized it Ricky (Weeks) was driving by on the outside.” added Ferguson. Ferguson followed Weeks’ outside charge to take second but ran out of laps trying to chase down the 5-time Carolina Clash Champion.
Then on Sunday afternoon Chris and his team traveled across the state line to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina for the Ultimate Late Model Series sanctioned March Madness 9. Ferguson again found himself deeper in the starting grid than what he would have liked. “It was a daytime race and you know going in that passing will tough, so you need to get a good starting spot. We rolled off eighth behind a lot of good cars. But they put some water on the track and that helped it. I saw Bloomquist move up to the top and pick up some spots so I followed him up there. The top was pretty good and we moved all the way up to third. But we bent something on the front end late in the race and fell back to fifth. But we were happy to come out of here with another top 5 finish and I believe we moved to second in the Ultimate Series points.” Ferguson said after the race.
Chris and his team are now working in their Mt. Holly, North Carolina shop to prepare their Warrior machine for Volunteer Speedway’s $10,000 to win Spring Thaw this Saturday, March 19th at the legendary Bulls Gap, Tennessee 4/10ths of a mile high-banked oval. “We have been to Bulls Gap a couple of times and we always ran pretty well there. It’s really high-banked and it’s usually real fast and racy. So we are looking forward to being there. It will also give us a chance to race over in Warrior Race Car builder Sanford Goddard’s backyard. We have high expectations going in and Sanford’s knowledge of the track and what to expect from it will be a big asset to us.” Ferguson said. |
UPDATE:
The Carolina Clash would like to announce the official results from the Skyler Trull Memorial race. After post race inspections Chris Ferguson has been declared the race winner.

| TROY RUTHERFORD SCORES $3,000 ALL COAST CHALLENGE WIN |
VENTURA, CA – MARCH 22, 2011 |

Defending track champion Troy Rutherford of Ojai took the lead from Moorpark's Kyle Smith on lap five and led the rest of the way to score the first round of the All Coast Construction 360 Challenge. The victory earned Rutherford $3,000 and ranks him among the favorites for the mini-series title that will be decided on October 29th.
Kyle Smith paced the field from the pole position alongside Austin DeBlauw from Ventura. As the green flag flew, Smith got the jump to lead the twenty-car field into turn one. Third starting Troy Rutherford slid into second as DeBlauw settled into third. Rialto's Don Gansen and USAC/CRA Champion Mike Spencer of Temecula battled for fourth with Ojai's Derek Buckley close behind.
Spencer shook free from Gansen and took third from DeBlauw, who tagged the wall exiting the second turn. Heading into turn three, Rutherford executed "slide job" pass on Smith for the top spot and the pair drag raced across the start-finish line. Spencer used his momentum off turn two to drop Smith to third as the new leader looked to extend his lead.
Rutherford maintained the lead as Spencer gave chase. Smith was under attack from Derek Buckley and Newbury Park's Jimmy Crawford for third. Behind them, Ventura's Greg Taylor was in striking distance. Buckley and Crawford dispatched Smith to fifth and Smith's bad luck continued as he spun and collected Gansen and Buena Park's Brody Roa.
As rain threatened to end the race, Rutherford was in command. Buckley and Spencer had a spirited battle for second as Taylor took fourth from Crawford. Spencer's car encountered problems and he lost positions to last week's winner Steve Conrad of Quartz Hill and Ventura's Cory Kruseman. Buckley began to reel in Rutherford and mounted a challenge, but it was not to be on this night. Rutherford took the win, followed by Buckley, Stockton's Johnathon Henry, Taylor, and Kruseman rounding out the top five.
Driving the #11 Trench Shoring / State Ready Mix car, Troy Rutherford was second in his heat race to Johnathon Henry. With his second 30-lap main event victory of the year, Rutherford also has two heat race wins to his credit. The former SCRA Sprint Car Rookie of the Year is second in the point standings heading into next week's action.
"The Animal" Derek Buckley had his best finish of the year with his runner-up performance. Starting sixth in the feature, Buckley challenged for the lead but had to settle for second. Piloting the #76 Fatheadz Eyewear / Competition Suspension Incorporated entry, Buckley won the night's second 10-lap heat race. Derek currently sits eighth in the championship point chase.
Johnathon Henry took third in the 30-lap All Coast Challenge feature. Starting seventh in main event, Henry took the #3 unsponsored machine past point leader Greg Taylor during the last laps to score the podium finish. Earlier in the program, the young driver won the night's first heat race and is now eighteenth in the standings.
Greg Taylor claimed fourth in the night's action after starting eighth. Piloting the #7 Taylor Trucking & Crane Service / Four Paws Pet Grooming car, Taylor won his second 10-lap event by claiming the program's third heat race. On the strength of his fourth place run in the feature, Taylor now holds a fifty-five point lead over Troy Rutherford.
"The Kruser" Cory Kruseman scored fifth in the All Coast Challenge. Driving the #21K Lucas Oil / Sander Engineering entry, Kruseman charged from 12th starting spot. Earlier in the night, the 2006 USAC/CRA Champion was third in his heat race and currently sits tenth in the VRA point chase.
Don Gansen won the evening's fourth 10-lap heat race. Piloting the #71K Sander Engineering / Lucas Oil car, Gansen scored twelfth in the main event. The California Lightning Sprint graduate is fifth in the championship points.
Justin Kierce of Reseda won his second 12-lap semi-main of the year. Driving the #43 JDCE Transportation / Concrete Specialties entry, Kierce was fifth in his heat race. Also earning transfer spots to the feature were
Brent Camarillo, Brandon Thomson, and Brody Roa. Kierce finished eleventh and Camarillo earned "Hard Charger / Best Passing Job" honors with a seventh place run after starting eighteenth. Thomson claimed seventeenth while Roa was scored nineteenth. Nic Faas was the night's alternate, but did not start the feature.
Ventura Raceway had three other companion features scheduled on the night. "The Kruser" Cory Kruseman won the VRA & USAC Midget "Battle of the Beach," while Cole Custer claimed the USAC Young Guns victory. The main event for the USAC Ford Focus Midgets was rained out. |

MENZIES MOTORSPORTS takes on the Roughest San Felipe 250 Ever |
March 13th 2011 |
 |
This past weekend marked the 25th year of the SCORE San Felipe 250 and with over 25 entries in the trophy truck class it was going to be a race to remember. After Bryce Menzies took the win in Laughlin it was time to come back and remind everyone to look out for this up and coming driver, and that’s just what he did. A week before race day Bryce and his co-driver Pete Mortensen left the bright lights of Las Vegas and headed 443 miles south to the small fishing town of San Felipe, Mexico. This is where they would spend every day preparing for the race and making sure they knew what to expect come race day. When the rest of the Menzies crew arrived it was time to do some fine tuning on the #70 trophy truck and then it was lights out and time for game faces bright and early. |
At 6:30am Saturday March 12th the dirtbikes and quads took to the starting line and the race was underway. Not long after the last dirtbike left the line was when the roar of the trophy trucks filled the air at the famous San Felipe arches, The drivers and their vehicles all looking ready. Starting 22nd Bryce knew that he was going to have to drive hard and make no mistakes.
The green flag dropped and Bryce did not hesitate as he quickly gained speed to make sure to not let the other trucks get to far out of sight. Only a few miles into the race flat tires brought trucks to a stop and Bryce was able to quickly make time as he passed several trucks and made his way through the sea of fans up north. After mile 35 the course heads west through the Borrego area up to the entry to San Matias Pass. From there the course took them south through the Diablo dry lake bed where dust takes over the air and vision is limited if you are behind another truck. However it seemed that no matter the elements, it did not affect Bryce or Co-Driver Pete Mortensen as they pushed on and reached maximum speed and by race mile 90 they had made their way up to seventh position. |
Coming up to the first fuel pit at mile 107 Bryce and Pete were on time with leaders Rob Maccachren and Jesse Jones. With a cloud of dust behind them the #70 Trophy Truck was the 5th truck to come by mile 170 and up to Fuel pit B. The Menzies crew pushed through the excitement, had a good pit and sent the truck out with a 6 second lead over Rob Maccachren. Now leading the race Bryce and Pete knew they just needed to give it their all these last 80 miles and make it to the finish, however that is not what the grueling San Felipe desert had planned for them.
Around race mile 221Bryce noticed the front passenger tire was flat. After coming to a quick stop co-driver Pete Mortensen quickly changed the flat with some help from the locals and before they knew it they were back in the race and trying to catch back up to the leaders. Not long after the flat, bad luck struck again and they noticed something was wrong with the power steering. After pushing over 10 miles with no power steering Pete quickly checked to see if the belt broke or if there was a visual power steering issue, but couldn’t find anything and decided to push it to the finish. With the truck back on course but with no power steering and only about 21 miles to the finish, Bryce and Pete decided to push as hard as they could and power through the even now harsher terrain and make it to the finish! |
Team owner and Bryce’s father Steve Menzies nervously awaited the arrival at the finish with the rest of the team and soon as they saw the Red Bull Menzies Motorsports #70 Trophy Truck come through the finish a big sigh of relief was let out and excitement was felt throughout the team. No, they may not have come in first, but with this being Bryce’s first San Felipe 250 and giving it his all, no matter the out-come the entire team was proud of Bryce and Pete for giving the top drivers a run for their money. A 6th place finish out of 24 trucks would make any team happy and now puts them in the drawing for the Baja 500 which takes place in June. |

King of the 360's "Cap's" Off Early Season Run... |
|
CAP HENRY and Team CHR wrapped up its early season schedule with an awesome run at the “King of The 360’s” at East Bay Speedway just outside of Tampa Bay, Florida. Overcoming equipment issues in the first couple races, the team kept plugging away to come together for East Bay. |
Starting out at Screven, Georgia with the “All-Star Circuit of Champions”, the team was fast right out of the trailer although mother nature would eventually prevail rescheduling the event for late in the season. |
Moving on to Ocala would show that the team had speed with their new Stanton MOPAR power, although relegated to and winning the B-Main placed him 19th near the back of the A-main. He quickly moved forward up to 14th only to have the evening end early when a rut in the track would cause a brake line failure, dropping the car to a 22nd place finish. The second night at Ocala would succumb to Mother Nature again canceling the event. |
The team moved on to Volusia Speedway to encounter the World of Outlaw’s two-night season warm-up. Missing the show on Night 1, the second night would fair better Cap 7th quickest out of 37 cars. But thanks to a rare mechanical failure, he bowed out while running for an “A” Main transfer spot. |
Once the team pulled into East Bay, Cap and crew found a track that they really liked and the results backed it up. Overcoming an unfamiliar “starting, passing and finishing” points format, Cap would make all three A-mains as Fuzz Lyons and the crew had the car running flawlessly. Starting 17th on Night 1, he carved his way through the field to finish 6th. On Night 2, he started 6th and finished 4th overall locking the team into the final A-main for the $10,000 to win “King of the 360’s” event. Drawing the #6 starting spot lined him behind eventual winner Daryn Pittman, plus veterans Terry McCarl, Mark Smith, Danny Smith and Tim Shaffer. The grueling feature saw the leaders moving into lapped traffic rather quickly making the passing a premium in the tight quarters. Cap would eventually slice his way into third and begin looking at a way around McCarl. “I knew we were quicker than Terry but I did not see an easy way around him,” said the rapidly maturing 20 year old. “And there was no way I was going to take the chance of wrecking with him for the position.” Team CHR would finish 3rd overall their very first time at this event and head back to Ohio with momentum building for what looks to be a great season. |
“With the price of fuel continuing to rise, it may have a very hard impact on Team CHR,” said team owner Kit Henry. “As an underfunded team, it not only may affect our touring with the All-Star Circuit of Champions, but our local day-to-day operations may have to be realigned like running for parts to our suppliers. And we may have to look at planning our trips leaving one day later in the week rather than just jumping in the hauler and heading out…” |
Weather permitting, Team CHR plans on running with the F.A.S.T. Series at Attica Raceway Park on March 25th; back with the All Stars on April 8th & 9th at Attica and on to the NRA 360's at Millstream in Findlay on April 10th, all in their home state of Ohio. |
The team will compete with some great new alignments in 2011 as they will run Stanton Motors and utilize Lucas Oil products exclusively. |
Team CHR would like to thank the following sponsors: HMS, Inc., Lucas Oil Products, RaceFanRadio, Indy Race Products, Stanton Race Engines, Outerwear Performance Products, GME/Neilds Steering, Kistler Racing Products, Simpson Race Products, Green Filters, Mad Industry, T-N-T Graphics, FK Bearings, Fragola Performance Systems, Stewart’s Custom Coatings, G-Force, Race Coveralls. Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Inc., Green High Performance Filters, Beaberbuilt, Maxim Racing Chassis and Team CHR. |

Ray Cook Strong at Clarksville and Cleveland; Eyes Spring Thaw this Weekend! |
|
Ray Cook and the D&R Motorsports team invaded the Volunteer State of Tennessee over the March 11-12 weekend for a pair of events at two separate venues. On Friday night, the Clarksville Speedway in Clarksville, Tennessee played host to a $3,000 to win MARS DIRTcar Series showdown. Ray laid down the quickest lap in his group during qualifying and later won his heat race. After starting the 30-lap main event from the inside of the second row, Ray maintained his position in the running order and finished third in the final rundown behind only winner Ronnie Johnson and runner-up Kent Robinson.
The dirt-slinging action quickly shifted to the historic Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee on Saturday for the $10,000 to win 'Shamrock.' Ray qualified well in Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series time trials and later ran second in heat race action. Passing was at a premium during the 60-lap main event at Cleveland and Ray wound up posting a seventh place finish in the annual 'Shamrock.' Full results from the Tennessee double-dip can be located online at www.dirtondirt.com.
Next up for the D&R Motorsports team will be another trip to a Volunteer State speedplant on Saturday, March 19, as they are set to infiltrate the ultra-fast Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee. Craig Dollansky - First Win of 2011! |
Watch Dollansky's post-race interview HERE!
|
| The Big Game Treestands #7 team opened up racing in California on Saturday as they returned to Silver Dollar Speedway for one of the biggest events each year in 'The Golden State', the Mini Gold Cup, an event Craig Dollansky finished fourth in 2009 when the World of Outlaws last sanctioned the event.
|
| With a stout field of 38 sprinters signed into the pit area, the Karavan Trailers Maxim was the final car out to qualify but still turned the 11th quick time to earn a front row starting position in heat race action. In the third heat race, Dollansky powered the Aggressive Hydraulics #7 out to the early lead front the outside pole and never looked back leading all ten laps. Luck was in favor of Dollansky for the dash inversion as the six pill was drawn, meaning 'The Crowd Pleaser' would start outside the front row where he would go on to finish 2nd.
|
| We drew the last pill for qualifying but it didn't really hurt us, quick time was fairly early in the qualifying order," said Dollansky. "We ended up getting 11th quick which put us in a good position for the heat race inversion. After winning the heat race it got us in the dash mix and we got a good draw for the dash to put us on the front row.
|
| Scheduled to go 35 laps for the Mini Gold Cup, Dollansky lined up along side Donny Schatz and got a great start to lead the field into turn one. The native of Elk River, Minnesota set a strong pace as he opened up a one second lead by lap four and began encountering lapped traffic by just the seventh circuit before the first caution came out. On the double-file restart, Dollansky chose the outside line to bring the field up to speed and pulled away to maintain the lead. After a caution on lap 26 was followed by a red flag, the Eaton's Aeroquip Performance Products #7 again widened the gap in the remaining nine laps to cruise to the checkered flag and record the first victory of the 2011 season for the #7 team.
|
| Starting position was in our favor all night long but we've been on the flip side of that coin this year as well so it was good to get a good start and capitalize on it," commented Dollansky who scored his fourth win at Silver Dollar. "We had a great car all night long and this was a great team effort. We weren't real good in Las Vegas but we learned some things there to help us at Chico and applied that. This was our second night back with the Morrison motor and we also learned some things there that caused us trouble in Florida. It's good for the entire team to get a win fairly early in the season.
|
| Two nights of racing await the Big Game Treestands #7 team this coming weekend as they return to Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway on Friday for the first time since 2003, followed by their annual trip to Thunderbowl Raceway the next night on March 19th. |

Steve Shaver totaled $20,000 for Rumley Enterprises |
|
Talk about a super sweep. Steve Shaver of Vienna, W.Va., completed a sweep of the two-race Super Bowl of Racing VII at Golden Isles Speedway, earning another $10,000 victory Saturday in a weekend of racing postponed from the first weekend in February.
After leading all 50 laps of Friday's feature, this time the third-starting Shaver overtook race-long leader Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., on the 26th lap Saturday and led the rest of the way in the K&L Rumley Enterprises Rocket Chassis.
Shaver, who said in victory lane his car handled even better Saturday than it did Friday, totaled $20,000 during the weekend of unsanctioned racing at the 4/10-mile oval for the North Carolina-based team.
Eighth-starting Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., rallied to finish second in Saturday's main event. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., a winner in Super Bowl action each of the previous four seasons, was shut out this year and settled for third place in the finale. Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., started and finished fourth while McCool rounded out the top five finishers.
Fast qualifier Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C. — who had to start on the tail because he switched to a backup car after right-rear suspension issues leading late in the first heat race rallied to finish sixth. Polesitter Jared Landers of Batesville, Ark., dropped back a few spots early and ended up finishing seventh.
McCool started outside the front row and took command early over Davenport and Scott Creel while Shaver held the fourth spot. As the frontrunning pack worked through lapped traffic, McCool struggled to get by Mike Nasworthy, and Shaver moved to the outside groove and advanced to the second spot after about 20 laps of the 50-lapper.
With McCool still hampered by traffic, Shaver made the winning move one lap past the halfway point, taking command as he exited turn two and raced down the Golden Isles backstretch.
Shaver got a little breathing room but also faced traffic, allowing Francis to burst into contention and put some head on Shaver. Francis nearly pulled alongside Shaver in turns one and two before Shaver used a slower car as a pick to stretch his lead in the final few laps.
The feature was slowed by five cautions, all for single-car incidents.
Notes: Shaver's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Styers Curbing and GPS. ... Scott Creel of Franklinton, La., started fifth and flirted with the lead in the early laps, but he slipped over the cushion in turns three and four and fell from contention. ... Fourth-finishing Jonathan Davenport ran a backup car after being involved in a lap-46 accident Friday. ... Casey Roberts, in the same wreck, also went to a backup but struggled, finished 23rd. ... Of the 24 entrants, two were newcomers: Casey Barrow and Brad Neat, while Stephen Castleberry and Mitch Fulford didn't return after Friday's action.
Super Bowl of Racing VII: (1) Steve Shaver, (2) Steve Francis, (3) Scott Bloomquist, (4) Jonathan Davenport, (5) Bub McCool, (6) Chris Madden, (7) Jared Landers, (8) Dan Schlieper, (9) Clint Smith, (10) Brian Reese, (11) Scott Creel, (12) Johnny Pursley, (13) Tyler Ivey, (14) Earl Pearson Jr., (15) Mike Nasworthy, (16) Casey Barrow, (17) Dale Hammond, (18) Brad Neat, (19) Donald Bradsher, (20) Brian Nuttall Jr., (21) Brent Dixon, (22) Jordy Nipper, (23) Casey Roberts, (24) Mike Collins. Fast qualifier (among 24 cars): Madden, 15.330 seconds. Heat race winners: Landers, McCool, Shaver, Davenport. |

Ray Cook Jumps Back into Dirt Late Model Competition this Weekend in Tennessee! |
|
The “Tarheel Tiger” Ray Cook will return to Dirt Late Model action this upcoming weekend (March 11-12) in the Volunteer State of Tennessee. On Friday night, the D&R Motorsports team will trek to the Clarksville Speedway in Clarksville, Tennessee for night one of the annual ‘Tuckasee Toilet Bowl Classic.’ The MARS DIRTcar Series and UMP DIRTcar Series will co-sanction the $3,000 to win event on Friday night at Clarksville. |

Bullring Action Upcoming! |
 |
Last week the bright lights of Las Vegas shined on The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for two nights of World of Outlaws competition as Craig Dollansky made his 43rd and 44th appearances at the half-mile oval. Up next, the Big Game Treestands #7 team continues their trek west as they invade California this weekend for the first of four short track, 'elbows up', events starting with the Mini Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday and continuing into April. |
In the days leading up to racing in 'The Golden State', Dollansky shared some thoughts on the Las Vegas Nationals and the upcoming event in Chico. |
Vegas Night 1
Qualifying: 5th
Heat Race: 2nd
Dash: 5th
A-Main: 5th, start (5) |
"We qualified well on the first night in Vegas and got into the top two in the heat to get us into the dash mix. After running fifth in the dash the car was pretty decent and we got up to third in the feature but the latter part of the race we had some restarts and started having some trouble with our tires and we ended up losing a couple of positions at the end." |
Vegas Night 2
Qualifying: 11th
Heat Race: 1st
Dash: 6th
A-Main: 7th, start (6) |
"On the second night we qualified eleventh, won our heat race, and got into the dash again. We made some good progress in the dash from the back row to get up to the sixth spot. Right away in the feature I knew we were going to struggle with the car, I almost spun it out starting the race and dropped back to eleventh. We weren't where we needed to be so we just tried to hang on to it throughout the race. We worked our way back past a few cars and got home in one piece. We know what we have going on and we'll to go work on that for California." |
Up next, Silver Dollar Speedway on March 12th |
"I'm looking forward to going back to Chico," commented Dollansky. "Chico has been one of my favorite tracks. We have a great Big Game Treestands team here with DJ, Luke, and Troy and everyone that supports this team and what we have going on. I'm really looking forward to getting there and racing Saturday night." |

Chris Ferguson Scores Runner-Up Finish in Ultimate Season Opener |
|
Chris Ferguson and his CFM Race Team kicked off their 2011 campaign in Saturday night’s Ultimate Racing Series season opener at the Modoc Speedway in Modoc, South Carolina. The Mt. Holly, North Carolina dirt late model pilot debuted his brand new Warrior Chassis in spectacular fashion by taking fast time honors and leading 46 of 50 laps in the feature. Ferguson had to settle for a runner-up finish however when he got hung up behind lap cars with only 4 laps remaining. Ferguson initially slipped back to third when Casey Roberts and Chris Madden both slipped past him on the high side of flat 3/8ths of a mile oval. Madden made the move by Roberts on the final lap and Ferguson was able to follow suit and pick up second place. |
|
While he was disappointed he didn’t get his first win of the year Ferguson was elated with his first run in the new Warrior. “We are very happy with how our car performed. I can’t say enough how much I appreciate Sanford and all they guys at Warrior. They have built us an awesome race car. It was good to have a bunch of the Starrette Trucking guys here with us tonight and have a good run for them. I also need to thank Randy Clary for some awesome power under the hood. It was really a great way to start out the year and hopefully that will give us momentum heading into a big weekend of racing next week.” Ferguson said. |
Ferguson led Roberts by a comfortable 6 car length margin with 10 laps remaining. But when Ferguson began to encounter backmarker traffic his momentum was slowed allowing Roberts and Madden to draw to his rear deck. “We caught Daniel (Baggerly) and he was racing for position with another car. They were running in the bottom where we had been running the entire race. I knew I was losing time to those guys behind me. I thought about trying the top but I watched Jonathan Davenport try it a few laps earlier and he slipped back and lost some spots. So I committed to the bottom. And that’s when Casey and Chris rolled me. I guess I should have tried the top but I felt like I was where I had to be. You know I think we had the race won there but lapped traffic is a part of racing. Those guys didn’t do anything wrong, they were racing too. The track had pretty well locked down and passing was tough. We won’t make any excuses. We were there and should have won it so the guys and I will just go back to the shop and get ready for next week.” Ferguson added. |
Ferguson and his team will head to the Carolina Clash sanctioned Skyler Trull Memorial on Saturday, March 12th at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina and round out the weekend on Sunday, March 13th in Gaffney, South Carolina at Cherokee Speedway’s rescheduled March Madness event. Ferguson is very excited about both events. “The Skyler Trull Memorial is very special to me personally. We won it back in 2009 and that one is still near the top of my biggest career wins. I grew up and around the Trulls and they are like family to me. So this is always a race I want to run well in. I appreciate Carolina Speedway and Carolina Clash putting the race on. It’s just special. And March Madness is a race I have watched since I was a kid. We have had some really great runs at Cherokee the last few times we have been there so I hope we can put another one together this week. Carolina and Cherokee are really my home tracks so we will have a lot of friends and supporters there to watch and we want to do a good job for them. Give them something to cheer about.” said Ferguson. |

#7 Takes 7th in 7th Feature |
|
Following their second straight top five finish on Wednesday, Craig Dollansky and the Big Game Treestands #7 team were back at it the next night for the seventh feature of the 2011 Outlaws season to wrap up the Las Vegas Nationals at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. |
After multiple hotlap sessions, the track was finally worked into racing shape for qualifying time trials where Dollansky circled the half-mile oval 11th quick with a time of 15.478 seconds. With the top twelve in qualifying inverted into three heat races, the Aggressive Hydraulics #7 started on the pole of heat race two and cruised to victory leading all eight laps. In the dash, Dollansky started tenth and worked his way up to 6th when the checkers flew on the six lap race. |
When five cars got together on the initial start of the 30-lap A-Main, the second start wasn't favorable for Dollansky as he dropped back to eleventh. As racing continued with much of the field running the highside, the Aeroquip sponsored sprinter raced back into the top ten as Dollansky ran tenth on lap 5 and then got around Lance Dewease to run ninth by lap 10. A caution on lap 27 and a red flag on the next set up a green, white, checkered, double-file restart with two laps remaining. In those final two circuits, 'The Crowd Pleaser' stood on the loud pedal and gained two more positions, bringing the #7 home in 7th. |
The Big Game Treestands #7 team returns to action on March 12th at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California as they begin an invasion on California that will take them through the first weekend in April. |

Night 1 of the Las Vegas Nationals |
|
A double-dip of racing in 'Sin City' was the next race for the Big Game Treestands #7 team as they headed to The Dirt Track at Las Vegas on Wednesday for night one of the Las Vegas Nationals. 'The Crowd Pleaser' was looking for his first victory at the big half-mile as he has five runner-up performances including 22 top tens and 13 top fives in 42 appearances. |
After the Big Game cars went 1-2 in hot laps, Dollansky powered the Karavan Trailers backed sprinter to a strong qualifying lap, stopping the clocks 5th quick with a time of 14.526 seconds. In the second heat race, Dollansky started inside the second row. With the top two finishers in the heat races transferring to the dash race, Dollansky was able to close in on Kraig Kinser in the last couple of laps and take over the 2nd place. The four pill inversion was drawn for the dash, one position short of the #7, as Dollansky would start 5th and go on to finish 5th in the 6-lap race. |
Starting from inside row three in the 30-lap A-Main, Dollansky ran sixth until a caution on lap four. A strong double-file restart when racing resumed saw the Aggressive Hydraulics #7 power around the highside, around Jason Sides and Terry McCarl, and up to the fourth position. On lap 19, Dollansky worked his way into the top three as he raced past Cody Darrah. After racing was stopped by a red flag on lap 24, Jason Meyers got around the #7 on the restart as well as Darrah who got by in the last handful of laps as Dollansky would still earn a top five finish by crossing the checkers in 5th and also vault up five positions in the World of Outlaws points standings. |
The Big Game Treestands #7 culminates their busy week of four races in three states on Thursday when they had back to The Dirt Track at Las Vegas for the finale of the Las Vegas Nationals. |

Chris Ferguson Set to Debut New Warrior Race Car |
|
Mt. Holly, North Carolina – After many long nights spent in his Mt. Holly, North Carolina race shop up and coming dirt late model racer Chris Ferguson and his team are set to debut a brand new race car at this weekend’s Ultimate Racing Series events. Ferguson, who has long piloted Rocket Chassis, made the switch over the off-season to Knoxville, Tennessee based Warrior Race Cars..
|
| “We just wanted to try something new. The success that Dale McDowell and Mike Marlar had last year really led us to look at what Sanford and those guys were doing with the Warriors. What we have seen thus far has been very impressive. They are building a very solid and tunable race car. And with the Randy Clary Engine under the hood we have a very potent package. I know that there will be a little bit of learning and driving adjustment on my part, but I honestly believe we will be competitive right off the trailer.” commented Ferguson |
Ferguson will lift the lid on his 2011 season on Saturday, March 5th at the Ultimate Late Model Series opener at the Modoc Speedway in Modoc, South Carolina. The Ultimate Series, formerly known as the Southern All Stars East Series, portion of the Modoc 100 will pay $5000 to the event winner. Then on Sunday, March 6th Ferguson will follow the Series North to one of his favorite tracks – the 3/8ths of a mile Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina. Cherokee Speedway will play host to its 9th Annual March Madness event which will pay $10,000 to win. “I am very excited about this weekend. On top of debuting a new car we will also have a new paint scheme from Big A’s Custom Graphics. It is easily one of the best looking cars I have ever had.” Ferguson commented. |
Ferguson will also be facing two extremes in the double-header – one track he isn’t very familiar with and another that he has raced frequently throughout his career. However Ferguson has high expectations at both tracks. “ I haven’t raced at Modoc in a few years and I’ve never raced there in a super so it will definitely be interesting. It seems like they have cut a little banking out of the track since I raced there but it still looks really racy. And then Sunday at Cherokee I feel like with a little luck on our side we have as good a chance as anyone to pick up the win. We had some great runs there last year and we won that East race there back in June so I feel like we have a good chance on Sunday. I have been itching to get the car finished and get to racing. So I am glad to finally get back in the seat.” Ferguson added. |
In the last few days Ferguson has also made his rounds with the racing media. Earlier this week Ferguson was featured in a Q&A article in the prestigious National Speed Sport News. The article, entitled Short Track Top Five, is a weekly feature by NSSN’s Adam Fenwick that spotlights a short-track racer and details their thoughts and opinions on a series of five questions. The Ferguson article can be found at www.nationalspeedsportnews.com . And beginning in afternoon of Wednesday, March 2nd Chris is featured in the ever popular dirt late model website DirtonDirt.com’s VideoCast segment. In the VideoCast Chris details his change to Warrior Race Cars and his expectations for his 2011 season. Chris talks about his good friend Trevor Bayne’s Daytona 500 triumph and concludes the segment by making an interesting wager on the upcoming Duke-North Carolina basketball game with VideoCast host Michael Rigsby. To see the VideoCast visit www.dirtondirt.com – a subscription is required. |
Chris is also very proud and excited to announce his group of 2011 sponsors and supporters. “It takes every bit of help we can get just to get to one of these races. So each and every person or company that supports us in any way is very important to the success of our racing program. I am blessed to have a great group of partners for 2011. Many of those have been with us for a number of years and others are new but we appreciate all of them just the same. We are still hoping to add a few more supporters before the season really gets into full swing.” Ferguson said. |
Chris and his team would like to thank Starrette Trucking, Hals Plumbing, Carver and Sons Roofing, Quality Landscape Materials, Creech's DJ Service, Big A's Custom Graphics, Keith's Handyman Service, Randy Clary Race Engines, Warrior Race Cars, Quality Fasteners, RE Suspension, K&N Filters, FK Rod Ends, Fragola Performance Systems, Schaeffer’s Racing Oil and Lubricants, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, Hooker Harness, Outerwears, RF Composites, Team W, KELCAR Motorsports Media and Behrent’s Performance Warehouse. |
