JEFF SMITH SWIPES CRATE LM VICTORY AT NORTH GEORGIA

Dalton/Chatsworth, GA (6/25/11) --- Team 17 Hill Motorsports driver Jeff Smith found their way to victory lane Saturday night at North Georgia Speedway in the Crate Late Model feature. Swiping the lead on a mid-race restart from 2010 Boyd's Speedway Track Champion Craig Burrows, Smith held on to the No.1 spot for his 9th victory of the 2011 season. A low car-count determined an extended 25-lap feature event which was no problem for the #17S "Josh Roberts Trucking, FK Rod Ends, Hypercoils, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oils, Bilstein, Martin Motorsports, Gene's Racing Parts" sponsored Warrior / RaceTek powered machine. Smith started out back as far as 6th racing past Grayson York, before restarts jamed the field together for what would be the winning pass.

"We're really fortunate on the restarts, Craig left the door open on the bottom twice and that was all that I needed to get him" stated Smith Sunday from his raceshop. Smith concluded by thanking Daniel Martin who's stepped up recently, helping the team get to where they are today. Jeff was twice voted on by racefans 2010 Most Popular Driver and ESPN RaceZone Driver of the Year last season. Fans can follow the team on their new web-site www.team17hillmotorsports.com or check out Jeff's facebook page for updates. Smith and Tennessee racers Jason Welshan and Jerry Coffman are all locked in a tight points battle at Boyd's Speedway for the 2011 Track Championship and should be in competition after the 4th of July Holiday weekend.

Sanders Rockets To Rock Rapids Triumph
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (June 24) – Rodney Sanders collected his second USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy main event of the season Friday with a victory at the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Unlike his triumph twelve days ago at the Nobles County Speedway where Sanders used a late-race pass of Ryan Gustin to get to the finish line first, the 21-year-old from Happy, Texas, grabbed the lead early and had to hold off a hard-charging Gustin to get the win in the 35-lap WIX Filters “A” Main.

From the outside of the front row, Al Hejna led his first main event lap of the season when the green flag dropped, but Scott Ward powered by Hejna to lead the second lap.

Meanwhile, Gustin stopped on the racing surface with a flat tire to bring out the race’s first yellow flag and forcing him to restart at the tail of the 24-car field.

Ward’s time at the front of the field lasted just one lap too as Jason Krohn blasted in front on the restart to take the top spot for the next four laps.

Mike Hansen’s flat tire on lap 7 brought out the second caution. Hejna regained the lead on the ensuing restart and added two more circuits to his total before Sanders scooted by on the inside to take control with nine laps down.

From  there, Sanders garnered some breathing room over the battle for second between Hejna, Krohn and Jon Tesch while Gustin worked his way back into the top 10 when the third and final caution occurred with 17 laps complete.

While Sanders was comfortably out front, Gustin continued his charge through the field and moved into the runner-up spot with just a handful of laps remaining.

With three to go, Nate Caruth’s machine began to slow with mechanical trouble but he was able to exit the track without bringing out the yellow flag and Sanders was able to coast to the finish line while Gustin ran out of laps and had to settle for the runner-up spot after passing 22 cars in the final 33 laps.

Tesch held on for a third-place finish while Krohn wound up fourth ahead of Mike Steensma, who was piloting the car that carried Krohn to the 2007 USMTS National Championship.

Sixth through tenth were Hejna, Jason Grimes, Kelly Shryock, Chris Spieker and rookie Brandon Beckendorf who earned the Mesilla Valley Transportation Hard Charger Award after starting 21st.

With his second-place effort, Gustin narrowed the gap between himself and Shryock to a single point (777 to 776) in the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Great Plains Region points battle with just two nights remaining on Friday and Saturday, July 22-23, for the Silver Dollar Nationals at the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb.

Sanders’ win gave him a bump to third in the rankings with 710 markers, followed by Grimes (696), Zack VanderBeek (691), Krohn (691), Tesch (672), Corey Dripps (638), Chase Junghans (625) and Ward (575).

First Day of Summer Brings Plenty of Heat On and Off the Track in Round Three of Summer Shootout Series

The first day of summer brought out the heat on and off the track in round three of the Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Tyler Green, Ben Rhodes and Carson Ferguson were among those able to keep their cool as each cruised to victory in their feature events.

Green, of China Grove, N.C., held off the likes of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, David Ragan, to take home his first win of the season in the Legend Car Pro division.

Battles for position were hard-fought from first on back as Wentzville, Mo., native, Kyle Weatherman, and last week’s feature winner, Sean Rayhall, of Austell, Ga., swapped for the lead.

Green proved he was a force to be reckoned with as he made a hard-charging pass on the outside to move into second position, eventually taking the lead with five laps to go.

Contact between Gregory Lang, of Davidson, N.C., and Chase Catania, of El Cajon, Calif., brought out the caution and staged the field for a green, white, checkered finish. Green held off the competition to get the win as Rayhall settled for second and Austin Hill, of Winston, Ga., crossed the line in third. Ragan trailed behind to finish fourth.

In the Legend Car Young Lions feature, Rhodes, of Louisville, Ky., led a majority of the laps as he secured his third win of the 2011 season.

Moving into the second position after starting the race in fourth, Rhodes quickly challenged Mason Massey, of Douglasville, Ga., for the lead. On Lap 4, the two were side-by-side in Turns 1 and 2 as Rhodes eventually slid to the inside, taking the top spot.

A single car spin brought out the caution on Lap 8, allowing the field to catch back up to the leaders. Rhodes quickly distanced himself from the field on the restart, leaving the remaining cars to battle in the closing laps.

Matt Pappa, of Nassau, N.Y., made a daring last-lap pass on Concord, N.C., native, Justin Carroll, to take the third position as Rhodes cruised across the finish line to claim victory. Massey followed behind to finish second.

In the Bandolero Bandits feature, Ferguson, of Mt. Holly, N.C., broke away from the pack en route to pick up his third feature win in the Summer Shootout Series this season.

Jacob Heafner, of Dallas, N.C., paced the field to the green, but after a pile up on the opening lap, a complete restart was required. Ferguson used the restart to pass multiple cars, making his way into the second position.

On Lap 4, Ferguson piloted his No. 00 past leader Austin Green of Concord, N.C., leaving Green in a two-way battle for the second position with Heafner. A late caution took Heafner out of contention, allowing Dawson Cram, of Mooresville, N.C., to take control of third.

The race came down to a three-lap shootout with Ferguson taking the checkered flag ahead of second place finisher Green and third place Cram.

Other feature winners included John Sossoman, of New London, N.C., in the Legend Car Masters division; Tyler Hill, of Port Tobacco, Md., in the Legend Car Semi-Pro division; Hunter Stewart, of Mooresville, N.C., in the Bandolero Beginner Bandits division; and Parker Barnes, of Roswell, Ga., in the Bandolero Outlaws division.

The 18th annual Summer Shootout Series continues Tuesday night, June 28, with Media Mayhem. In addition to a full slate of Legend Car and Bandolero racing, local television weathermen will get behind the wheel to compete in the second school bus slobberknocker of the season.

Duel in the Dakotas Sweep!

After racing to their third victory of the season on Friday at River Cities Speedway, the Aggressive Hydraulics #7 team returned to the high banked, high intensity, 3/10-mile on Saturday looking to keep the momentum rolling in the finale of the Duel in the Dakotas.

A strong field of sprinters assembled for battle on the hot sunny day in North Dakota with Dollansky piloting the Big Game Treestands Maxim to 4th fastest time in qualifying among the 34 cars in the pit area.  Spectacular heat race competition would see 'The Crowd Pleaser' motor from the fourth spot and track down Kevin Swindell to take the lead and cruise to the victory.  Winning the heat put the Karavan Trailers #7 in the dash where Dollansky would start second and finish 2nd in the 8-lap event.

Starting from outside the front row of the 40-lap A-Main, Dollansky ran the highside of the track until the first caution came on lap 10.  As racing resumed the #7 fell back to fourth momentarily until he worked the cushion aboard the Eaton's Aeroquip Performance Products Maxim and raced past Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser to retake second and come after Jason Sides for the lead until another stoppage on lap 14.  Following two cautions, the intensity of the feature continued to swell as the top four drivers went four wide exiting turn two on the restart with Dollansky slipping back to fifth by a lap 21 caution.

The driver from Minnesota continued to work the highside and motor up to third by lap 24 and then executed a slide job on Joey Saldana in turn 1 to assume the runner-up position one lap later.  With Sides running the bottom and Dollansky working the cushion to perfection, the driver of the Big Game Treestands backed sprinter slowly started to hunt down the leader with the laps winding down.  The action culminated on the final two corners when 'The Crowd Pleaser' exploited his nickname to full potential as he shot between Sides and the outside wall and charged to the checkered flags to sweep the weekend and record the teams fourth victory of the season.

"We got a good starting spot outside the front row for the long 40 lap race and had a few cautions that put us in double-file restarts and one restart we got shuffled back to 5th and we had to work our way back,", commented Dollansky.  "It was an intense race and we were able to get up to 2nd and pace ourselves in the latter part of the race, Jason was running a good race and had a good car.  At one point it looked like it was going to be a shuffle between five cars for the win.  He led every lap but at the end of the race when we were in lapped traffic running second I could tell he was primarily running the bottom and we got a good run on him in the last corner and had just enough room to get through and get the win.  It was great to get back to back wins for Aggressive Hydraulics and everyone that supports this race team."

MENZIES MOTORSPORTS INVADES CRANDON
BRYCE MENZIES SETS PRO 2WD TRACK RECORD

6-19-2011

After a weekend full of mud for TORC round 1 was canceled due to rain and Menzies Motorsports was ready to re-group and head to Crandon, WI for rounds 3 and 4 of the TORC series. Just a week before race day the Menzies/Red Bull drivers brought out the PRO trucks to do some testing and get the trucks prepped and ready for the course. “This course is high speed and it will be something completely new to me. It was a must to come out here and test so that I didn’t go into race weekend not prepared.” Said PRO 2WD driver Bryce Menzies.

Thursday afternoon the gates to “The Big House” opened up and teams from all across the country started moving in and setting up their home for the weekend. Crandon is known for their passionate fans and the history that has given drivers a place in the history books of off-road racing. Team owner Steve Menzies “ Our team is thrilled to be here racing at the historic Crandon track. We are ready to show the fans what we are all about and that is putting on a show and getting on the podium” said as he helped the team set up there pit consisting of 2 semi’s that would house their PRO Light, PRO 2WD and PRO 4x4 this weekend.

PRO Light

Luke took to the track Friday afternoon for practice and qualifying where he would be going up against 15 other drivers to get the number 1 qualifying spot for Saturdays race. Practice consisted of just a few laps and after practice Crew Chief Ian Beaman made a few minor changes to the truck to help gain speed.  Qualifying came and went just as fast as practice and Luke took to the course like he had been racing for years. Before Luke could even change out of his driving suit he found out that he would be starting 4th for round 3.

Over 10,000 fans filled the grass hill Saturday morning and the sun came out to make the start of round 3 perfect for watching all classes race around the 1.25mile track. Luke lined up in staging ready to take on turn one as soon as the flag dropped. As he awaited he visualized his lines and the perfect line that he needed to get the holeshot and be out front to stay out of what chaos might unfold as all 15 trucks rushed to the blind drop down of the famous turn one.  The green flag waved and before he knew it he was at the end of turn one and turned around facing oncoming trucks as they barreled by him at over 80 mph contact was made to the #14 PRO Light and Luke found himself right where he didn’t want to be. The track was immediately red flagged due to the accident that unfolded in turn one and the race would be completely restarted. Luke lined back up in position to try it all over again but as soon as the flag dropped again he had to make his way to the hot pit due to problems with the truck as a result of the contact that was made.  “ Turn one is always something that you just really have to cross your fingers going into and hope that no one makes contact with you our you don’t make a mistake and spin out. The track was really watered down and I believe that’s what caused me to spin out. My crew worked hard to get me back out to race but the damage was too great.” Said Driver Luke Johnson

PRO 2WD

9 PRO 2WD trucks were signed up for this weekends races and among those trucks you could find the Red Bull #7 of Bryce Menzies. After testing in Crandon just a few days earlier it was now time to put all that testing to work. As Bryce pulled out onto the track for practice the team watched from 30ft above the track for a bird’s eye view of the TORC rookie running with the best of the best. After 3 laps around the track Bryce knew right away that something wasn’t right. Crew Chief Chris Faulkner and the rest of the team quickly went back to the pit area to figure out what changed between testing and now. Before they knew it, it was time for qualifying and Bryce was back out on the track. He put behind him the shaky practice and moved forward, but something still didn’t feel right. Bryce ended up qualifying 5th for Saturday’s race but he did not let this shake his motivation and attitude for Round 4. After some minor tweaks and changes Bryce and the truck went out for the practice laps on Saturday and during the practice laps they knew they had the truck dialed in.

As fans cheered on the PRO Light finishers, the #7 truck took to the start line, this was the time to show everyone what Bryce was made of. Fans settled back to their seats but there was not one person sitting as the 30second sign dropped and engines roared till the green flag waved and all 9 trucks plowed their way to turn one. Fans, drivers and teammates were all on there feet to see who took the holeshot. It was Rob MacCachren who came out in the lead and right behind him out of the dirt cloud was the bright blue RedBull truck with Bryce right on his bumper. “The truck felt great, everyone worked together to figure out what was going on with it and with all the experience we have under out pit they fixed the truck and the rest was up to me.” Said Bryce.  The battle for first place was well underway in the first few laps of the race as Bryce inched closer and closer to Rob and waited for any little mistake to be made so he could make a clean pass. “This track is fast and the last thing you want to do is pass someone when it is not safe, you have to have patience and skill to do what these guys do.” Said Menzies General Manager Cory Beacham.

The PRO 2WD’s were giving the fans a show that they would be talking about for weeks as the trucks reached speeds of over 100mph. The mandatory yellow came and the trucks all gathered back up to follow the pace truck driven by legend Walker Evans around the track and back to the green flag. As the race started back up at the half way point Bryce let Rob know he was right there and he was ready to take that number one spot and that is just what he did. As they came into turn 7 the Menzies/ Red Bull #7 truck came out in the lead as they charged back into turn one. Bryce was leading the race and this TORC rookie at that point let everyone know that he was here to race for a championship. As the rest of the PRO 2WD scrambled to catch up it was clear that this race was between Bryce and Rob. With only a few laps left they were back in turn 7 and Bryce found himself on 2 wheels, scrubbing off just enough speed to give Rob shot at getting back by him. Rob took the lead at that point and was back in first. They both pushed their hardest to the checkered flag and as they flew threw the air of the finish line it was Rob in 1st, Bryce in 2nd and Scott Taylor in 3rd.

As Bryce pulled to the podium and emerged from the truck Oakley’s own Chris Petrillo was right there to award Bryce with the “Oakley Bomb Award” which let Bryce know that he had the fastest lap of the race. Not only did Bryce end up second place, he had the fastest lap of the race and he also set the record for fastest lap at Crandon in the PRO 2WD drive class. Bryce was ready for Sunday’s race to get back on the podium and give the fans another show.

PRO 4x4

With years of racing experience at the famous Crandon track, it was no surprise to fans and teammates that Ricky was a natural at this track. The truck ran great for practice and in qualifying Ricky and track veteran Johnny Greaves challenged each other for the number one qualifying position but it was Adrian Cenni who took the n number one spot. Ricky qualified 2nd and would be starting round 4 with Cenni on his right and Greaves to his Left.

The last race of round 3 was ready to take place and the 9 PRO 4x4 trucks were more then ready to show fans what this track was all about and that is speed. The green flag rippled through the air as spectators took to their feet one last time to watch the trucks come into view and catch sight of who was leading the race. As the trucks made their way out of turn one and quickly into turn two leading the race was Greaves, Cenni and right on them was Ricky who was letting them know that the #48 Menzies built PRO 4x4 was not going anywhere. After battling Cenni for 2nd place it was long before Cenni was falling back with a flat and Ricky took over 2nd place and was starting to gain on Greaves. Coming up behind Ricky was ScottDouglas but Ricky did not let him distract the focus and momentum that he had going and they raced to the mandatory yellow which marked that half way point of the race.  As the trucks grouped back together for one last drop of the green flag Ricky was picking his line andwhere he could go for the pass. The flag dropped and all 9 trucks were pedal to the metal going into turn 2 and it was a race to the finish as Greaves and Ricky both did their best to hold their lines and hold off those drivers who wanted that number one spot. The trucks reached up to 110mph and making no errors at that speed comes with many years of racing and testing and that is what all came into play as the trucks and drivers put all their effort into the last lap of the race to gain one more position but as the checkered flag took to the air it was Greaves, Ricky and Barlow who would make it to the podium. “It feels great to be on the podium 2 races in a row. We have put a lot of hours into getting this truck where it is and we are ready to show fans andother teams out there what we are about and that is winning.“ Said Ricky to his fans.

Not long after the race action ended fans lined the Menzies/Red Bull pit for autographs and pictures with the drivers. Menzies knows that without fans the sport would not be where it is today and they take the time to give back. Menzies Motorsports also would like to congratulate Menzies Teammate Super Buggy driver Larry Job for his first ever Crandon win. Larrydominated the track in his #07 Super Buggy and came out on top with a 1st place finish.  Charlie Schlieve Jr. placed 4th for round 3 in the Menzies 1600 buggy. This is Charlie’s first year of racing and he is already starting to make a name for himself.Congrats to both Larry and Charlie for their hard work and great finishes.

Round 4 cancelled due to weather
(Officials with USAC and the Traxxas TORC Series, presented by AMSOIL, have cancelled the Sunday round of the Potawatomi Brush Run 2011 at Crandon (Wisc.) International Speedway due to rain and unsafe racing conditions.

Craig Dollansky Racing -
Surging to Victory at River Cities!

A stretch of nine events on short tracks got underway for Craig Dollansky on Friday during the opening night of the Duel in the Dakotas as the #7 team adored the Aggressive Hydraulics paint scheme for the first time in 2011.  River Cities Speedway, the fastest track on the World of Outlaws circuit, has been a strong track for Dollansky who has four top-five finishes in six races including a victory in August of 2009.

With 32 cars signed into the pit area at the track located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Dollansky muscled the Big Game Treestands backed sprinter around the 3/10-mile oval in 9.745 seconds, good enough for 3rd fastest overall in qualifying.  Scheduled to start fourth in the third heat race, 'The Crowd Pleaser' used a great start to move past Lucas Wolfe on the highside and into the second position to earn a spot in the dash race.  The six pill inversion was drawn for the dash, meaning the Karavan Trailers #7 would start fourth.  In the 8-lap event, Dollansky raced past Steve Kinser and come after Joey Saldana but ended up finishing 3rd.

With the whole racing night hurried along due to rain showers in the area, the 40-lap A-Main was run before the support class as Dollansky lining up third on the grid.  When the green flag dropped the Elk River, Minnesota native raced closely with Joey Saldana for second and would assume the position by a lap 7 caution.  As racing resumed, leader Bill Rose set a strong pace with Dollansky hounding him for the lead each time in turn three.  'The Crowd Pleaser' would make it stick on lap 19 as he raced past Rose and into the lead.  The driver of the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim continued the fast pace working through traffic until the final caution came with 5 laps to go.  Dollansky would use a strong start to pull away from the field on the double-file restart and cruise to his third victory of the season and second at River Cities Speedway.

"We started the night out with a good qualifying lap and got ourselves in the dash to get a good starting spot for the feature in the second row," commented the driver of the Eaton's Aeroquip Performance Products Maxim.  "This Aggressive Hydraulics crew did a good job and I couldn't be happier for Paul and Jenn Johnson and everyone that supports us from Aggressive Hydraulics.  We were running lapped traffic good going high and low and I was able to get home to the checkered flag first.  I couldn't be more proud of this team and everyone from Big Game Treestands with Tod Quiring, Karavan Trailers with Scott Boyd, Eaton's Aeroquip, Maxim Chassis, Morrison Motors, and everyone that supports us, it's a great team effort."

Hoffman Makes History with NDRA Modz 'Road Show' Win at East Lincoln Speedway
STANLEY, NC (June 11) – Nick Hoffman made history on Saturday night at East Lincoln Speedway by becoming the first driver to score a NDRA Modz ‘Road Show’ presented by Roush Yates Performance Parts. For Hoffman the victory was worth $1,000.
Hoffman’s biggest challenge on the night was Mother Nature as persistent storms threated to postpone the event for the second time. With a huge storm rolling in series officials decided to move the 30 lapper up in the program in an effort to beat the rain.
Hoffman and Kyle Strickler brought the 17 car field to the green flag with Hoffman dashing to the point. After only one lap was completed it began to rain and the field was forced pit side to wait it out.

After a 30 minute rain delay the field retook the track and again Hoffman sped away as the field took the green. Behind the teenager, Strickler, Rob McLaughlin and Derrick Ramey were in a heated battle for second. McLaughlin’s strong run came to an early end when he headed to the pits with suspension damage.
Henry Poole decided to join the mix by lap seven as he sped around both Strickler and Ramey, to move into second. Strickler returned the favor one lap later as he rolled back around the young Poole and set his sights on the race leader.
The third of seven cautions waved on lap 13 for a spinning Steve Hines. Bucky Gregory used the Delaware Double File restart to his advantage as the Troutman,NC resident bolted into third. Behind Hoffman the top five continued to battle as Ramey retook fourth on lap 22.
The final caution of the event waved on lap 24 setting up a six lap shootout to the checkers. Hoffman was up to all challenges as the part-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitor sped away to the win. Strickler, Ramey, Poole and Gregory rounded out the top five.

The next event for the NDRA Modz will be Saturday night June 18th as the ‘Road Show presented by Roush Yates Performance Parts’ will invade Friendship Speedway in Elkin, NC for a $1,000 to win main event.

CAP HENRY and Team CHR Ready for Ohio Sprint Speedweek: 8 Races in 9 Days

Last Sunday afternoon, Team CHR pulled back into their shop’s driveway after they finished one of the toughest schedules of the summer…six races in nine days leading into “Ohio Sprint Speedweek” starting tonight at Attica Raceway Park.

“We grabbed our first feature win of the season, rolled the car, broke a motor or two and ran up front the entire time,” said Cap Henry as he prepares for the team’s next intense week.  “We have proven time and again that we can run up front with the best of ‘em but we keep struggling with these crazy mechanical things…all part of good, hard racin’, I guess!”

*As we approach mid-season in Northern Ohio, all attention turns to the “Ohio Sprint Speedweek” as the top teams from the Ohio region (and beyond) will compete for the All Star's nightly purse at 8 tracks over 9 days.  As the series criss-crosses the state beginning tonight, several of the FAST Series regulars will compete against the All Stars on their home turf three times throughout the 8 events.  The Speedweek schedule then heads to KC Raceway (6/18), Millstream Speedway (6/19), Waynesfield Motor Sports Park (6/20), Fremont Speedway (6/21), Sharon Speedway (6/22).  After a break in the action on Thursday night, the teams then head to Limaland Speedway (6/24) and conclude the week at Fremont Speedway (6/25), once again for the “$10,000 to Win” finale.  *(Courtesy of FastonDirt.com)

As Chief Mechanic FUZZ LYONS continues his recuperation, former team strategist A.J. HAVENS has filled the bill helping the team stay focused on fixing the mechanical problems while keeping Cap at the front of the field.

Chris Ferguson Finishes Third in Ultimate at Volunteer Speedway –
Takes Over Ultimate Points Lead

Putting a very tough previous weekend of racing behind him, Chris Ferguson rebounded on Saturday night at Volunteer Speedway in a big way. Affectionately known as “The Gap” Volunteer Speedway, located in Bulls Gap, Tennessee is well know for it’s high banks and lightning fast speeds. The Ultimate Late Model Series made it’s first ever visit to “The Gap” on Saturday night for a $10,000 to win / 75 lap event. Ferguson kicked off the evening in great fashion by topping the other thirty-one entrants in time trials to claim the Shell Racing Solutions Fast Time Award. Ferguson’s lap of 12.449 seconds placed him on the pole for the first of four ten-lap heat races.

“We had a great lap. The car felt very comfortable and I knew we were going to at least be in the top five. So I was very happy to wind up fastest overall. There was a ton of talented guys there. Bloomquist, Owens, Cook, Madden and the list could go on and on. Going there a couple weeks back really helped us be better prepared and I think that showed with how we ran. We were definitely excited about going back up there. We had a good car that night and we got turned around running third. So I was confident that we were going to be in good shape for the Ultimate race.” Ferguson said.

Ferguson lined-up for heat number one with 3-time and reigning Southern All Stars East Champion Casey Roberts to his outside. At the start of the heat Roberts was able to get the jump to take the lead. “The outside was the better line for starts. The Gap is just such a big momentum-type racetrack you really needed to be out there to get going. So Casey was able to get the lead. But I believed I could race my way back into the lead and that’s just what I was able to do.” Ferguson added.

Ferguson flashed by Roberts to take the point on the second lap of the heat and then led the final 8 circuits to take the win and put himself on the pole for the seventy-five-lap feature.
Ferguson and veteran Jimmy Owens led the field to green for the feature. It was Owens who took control of the event with Ferguson following closely. “Jimmy beat us on the start. I tried to race him on the bottom but slid up high through (turns) 3 and 4 and he drove away. Jimmy is really good at Bulls Gap. Of course Jimmy is good wherever he goes, so I knew he would be tough to beat there. But we gave it a good shot. I believe we should have run second but I let Davenport get by me on a restart and after that it was just too hard to pass. The lap cars made it even tougher on us. But that’s just a part of racing. We are happy to get back on track and get a good finish. Our Randy Clary power was awesome and our Warrior Race Car was excellent all night. We are ready to get to Lancaster this week and try to get another win.” Ferguson concluded.
Ferguson’s third place finish at Volunteer Speedway vaulted him into the lead of the Ultimate Series standings. Ferguson (151) now leads Chip Brindle (148), Roberts (143), Jonathan Davenport (132) and Petey Ivey (113) heading into the next series event on May 7th at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. Ferguson is pumped about the Wythe event given his past success at Fred Brown’s beautiful 4/10ths of a mile facility. “I love running at Wythe. It is such a nice place and the track is always fast and racy. It’s always a pleasure racing at Mr. Fred and Miss Susan’s place. And we are all the more happy to be going in with the points lead. There’s a lot more racing to do but I would rather lead than follow in the points deal.” Ferguson said. This weekend Ferguson and his CFM Team will return to Carolina Clash competition for the Saturday night, April 30th $4000 to win event at Lancaster Speedway in Lancaster, South Carolina. Ray Cook Claims $3,000 Win in Rare Visit to Richmond Raceway!

Ray Cook recorded his second victory of the 2011 racing season on Saturday night, June 11 at the Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Kentucky!  After a sub par qualifying session at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Friday night, the D&R Motorsports team chose to forego the rest of the 'Dream' program and instead headed south to Richmond on Saturday.  The decision proved to be a smart one for the #53 team, as they picked up the $3,000 top prize in the inaugural event for the United Super Dirt Car Series (USDCS).

The driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" laid down the quickest lap during the qualifying session at Richmond to earn Fast Time honors.  Ray later ran second in his heat race, which locked him into the fifth starting spot for the 'Rain Dodger 40.'  The Brasstown, North Carolina ace methodically worked his way to the front of the field and grabbed the top spot on lap thirty-two.  Ray went on to claim the $3,000 win over Victor Lee, Aaron Hatton, Mike Jewell, and Tyrel Todd.  Following the triumph at Richmond, Ray dedicated the victory to Jamie Brown, son of former car owners Brownie and Cheryl Brown, who tragically lost his life in a house fire last Wednesday.  Complete results from Richmond can be accessed by clicking on www.usdcs.com.

“We were all disappointed by qualifying fifty-fourth fastest for the Dream at Eldora, but we salvaged the weekend with the win at Richmond,” quoted Cook earlier today.  “The car was great all night at Richmond and I can’t thank my crew enough for all of the hard work they put into it this week.  We tore up two cars last weekend and had to have a car ready for Bill Elliott to run in the Prelude to the Dream at Eldora on Wednesday.  They worked countless hours and the victory definitely gives us a boost of morale after a long week.  Also, our thoughts and prayers are with the Brown family at this time, as they deal with the loss of Jamie last week.”

The #53 team will jump back on the rigorous Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour this upcoming weekend (June 17-18) in a pair of $10,000 to win showdowns in the states of South Carolina and Virginia.  On Friday night, the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina will play host to a pivotal LOLMDS battle, while the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia will do the same on Saturday evening.  Ray comes into the LOLMDS doubleheader tenth in the latest series point standings.  Additional information on these races can be viewed online at www.lucasdirt.com.

Parker Stays HOT!!

Ron “The Bull” Parker continued  his record setting season Friday night at Carolina Speedway as the Belwood, NC native captured his third consecutive NDRA GM Performance Late Model main event win.
Parker started off the evening by qualifying on the pole of the 20 lap feature. Anthony Sanders joined Parker on the front row by setting the second fastest time of the 15 car field. As the green waved Parker quickly jumped to the point with Sanders in tow. As Parker began to stretch out his lead Ross Bailes began to flex his muscles as he charged through the field. As the field was headed to the white flag Bailes finally  made the move past Sanders to second. At the stripe it was Parker, Bailes and Sanders. Tenth starting Dan Brewer was fourth with Zack Mitchell fifth.
This also marks Ron's 200th career Late Model win!

Congradulation to Ross Bailes for winning the Ultimate Racing Series sanctioned 30th Annual Laurens County Shrine Race at Laurens (SC) County Speedway in the Professional Restoration B4 Mastersbilt Chassis. Ross set fast time and led all 40 laps for his 2nd SLM win in 4 days. Congrats to the entire Ross Bailes Racing Team on their big win.

FASTRAK SE Tour Heads To Hartwell Speedway

Off the heels of the most exciting Triple Crown in series history, the FASTRAK Racing Series is gearing up for its next stop on the tour. Hartwell Speedway will host the next touring event later this month on June 25th. The Hartwell, Georgia facility is a familiar stop for many FASTRAK teams and has hosted many exciting events in recent years.

Hartwell owner/promoter Marty Lance has seen astounding support this season as fans teams across the southeast continue to deliver some of the best weekly racing the area has to offer. Lee Cooper, via his Triple Crown win, holds the SE point lead over David Smith and Brandon Umberger. These three drivers are only separated by six points heading into Hartwell as a host of other teams look to break into the top 3 and establish themselves as championship contenders.

“The Triple Crown weekend was an exciting weekend for all involved”, stated FASTRAK’s Stan Lester. ”Lee edged David out by only one point and that is a testament to how competitive our races are. Our teams now have a few weeks to work on their cars and run some National Weekly races before heading to Hartwell”.

More information will be forthcoming as series officials work with Hartwell in preparation for this event. For the latest news you can visit www.fastrakracing.com & www.hartwell-speedway.com
